THE ORANGE REPORT.
An online community platform for survivors and advocates
Over the past few months we’ve been meeting with the Biden-Harris Transition Team, and the Biden-Harris Administration since their Inauguration 70 days ago. Ringing the alarms is what we do, because gun violence can’t wait.
Biden ran his campaign on promises to act on the growing gun violence epidemic immediately, and we are holding him to it because the crisis is so urgent. Records show gun violence killed nearly 20,000 people across the United States in 2020. Not counting for another 24,000 people who died by suicide with a gun. In a recent NPR Interview, I shared the truth. “For too long our policy has been reactive. Only serving as a measure to react whenever gun violence occurs, react whenever another shooting happens, whether it be on our streets or in our schools.” We set our demands and made those clear, calling for the passage of various policy priorities and for the administration to dedicate at least $5 billion dollars to Fund Peace over the next eight years. This morning, Biden met the moment; announcing a historic $5 billion dollar investment over eight years in support of evidence-based community violence prevention programs. This is an amazing start, but there’s so much more work to do. Will you commit to donating $20 today to support our advocacy efforts? Every dollar counts, and we are leaning on you to continue this fight. In Community, Luis J. Hernandez Co-founder, Executive Director Youth Over Guns P.S.
